Helping to put the Power back in PowerBuilder

New License Agreement

May 13, 2009 08:06 by bradwery

To date, there has been no license agreement for the PBGUIControls found at www.PowerToTheBuilder.com. My way of thinking was that this was a good thing for you, the developer. Essentially, I wanted to provide the PowerBuilder Community with a set of tools that they could use without having to worry about copyright or licensing issues. There would be no questions about IP, costs or anything else that naturally comes with open source software. It's yours to use how you wish.

There was one thing that I didn't consider and that was protecting myself from liabilities. A license agreement is an agreement between two parties, the provider of the software (me) and the user of the software (you). It's meant to protect both parties. With that said, I've now added an EULA to the PBGUIControls. You must agree to the terms before downloading.

Here is the gist of the agreement. You can use the controls as you wish like you are today. Free of IP and copyright issues. PowerToTheBuilder (me), will provide the software as is without any warranty. Essentially, I can't be held liable for anything that goes wrong while you use the controls.

That's it. It's a Win-Win-Win for everyone. No restrictions and a clear message about warranty and copyright.

Let me know if you have any conserns (brad.wery@PowerToTheBuilder.com).

Thanks,

Brad

Hi.

I saw the new license grants me to install and use it.

I'm not clear about the "use it" part:

1. If I develop a new software that its GUI is based on those components, Can I sell it?

2. Can I modify the source code?

Thanks.

The license agreement gives you the right to use the UI components as you wish. If you use them in your commercial application you do not have to worry about royalties or copyright. Sell your software as you do now. The main thing with the EULA is to protect Werysoft from liability.

Just to reiterate, the components are free to use and are there for the PB community.

Enjoy!

P.S. If you think the EULA agreement needs to be re-worded, please let me know.

Thank you for clearing that out (and for the wonderful work, of course).
